Whimsical, witty, warm and elegant, WHERE I COME FROM is a tribute to Eleni's roots-musically, historically, emotionally and spiritually.  The third in a trilogy co-produced with the gifted Doug Messenger and recorded as live as possible in his North Hollywood studio, WHERE I COME FROM builds solidly on Eleni's reputation as a detailed songsmith.  Following their stellar contributions to Eleni's second CD, TO THE BONE, standout guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and L.A. studio great, Greg Liesc (K.D. Lang, Joni Mitchell) superb upright bassist, Ernie Nunez (Brian Setzer Orchestra), and keyboard virtuoso John "JT" Thomas (Tracy Chapman) once again form the musical backbone of this recording.

Though simply and sparely recorded, WHERE I COME FROM is lush in sound and rich in musical suprises, thanks to the masterful contributions of a handful of guest musicians.  Inspiring musical touches abound, sneaking up to catch your ear and, on occasion, make you laugh out loud (whiny, bratty bass clarinet; gritty, strip-joint saxophone, tinkly, evocative Bouzouki; tango-hall accordion.)  The combined effect serves to punctuate and support Eleni's acoustic guitar, allowing her strong, supple voice (described by Music Reviews Quarterly as "...having an almost shocking clarity, unlike any singer since Joan Baez" ) to remain front and center.

Eleni's well-honed ability with comedy is also fully in the forefront on this disc (Cyber Sex, Tessie), as is her deft, thoughtful way with a ballad (Devotion Street, Gold Rush).  Where I Come From and  Leaving Lowell are tributes to her Greek heritage. The Alligator Man Loves the Monkey girl, recorded absolutely live, is a foot-tapping, exhilarating tribute to the Jazz sound of the 40's.  Time Out of Time, the story of a brief affair, is steamy enough to melt your CD player.  Each song in this collection is penned with the same attention to vivid detail that made Eleni a finalist two years in a row (2000 and 2001) in the prestigious Kerrville New Folks Songwriting competition, and that inspired Independent Songwriter Magazine to dub her "...a superb storyteller... a master tunesmith."
